The Ebonyi State Police Command has debunked claims circulating in the media that the President of the Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC), Comrade Igboayaka O. Igboayaka, was abducted. The command clarified that Igboayaka was lawfully arrested following a petition that accused him of spreading false information capable of inciting unrest in Ebonyi State.
In a statement issued on Monday in Abakaliki, the state capital, the command’s spokesperson, SP Joshua Ukandu, confirmed Igboayaka’s arrest. He emphasized that the youth leader was taken into custody based on a formal complaint submitted to the Commissioner of Police. According to Ukandu, the allegations against Igboayaka are serious, as they involve disseminating false reports that could disrupt peace and destabilize communities.

“The command is currently investigating the claims in the petition, and once the investigation is completed, he will be charged to court,” Ukandu stated. He further assured the public that due process is being followed and that the police remain committed to upholding the law while respecting the rights of individuals.
The arrest has sparked mixed reactions, with supporters of the Ohanaeze Youth President demanding his immediate release, while others insist that the law must take its course. Meanwhile, security analysts suggest that this development underscores the increasing tension between authorities and youth groups in the region.
As the case unfolds, all eyes will be on the Ebonyi Police Command to ensure a transparent legal process, while stakeholders closely watch the implications of this arrest on regional stability and youth activism in southeastern Nigeria.
