An official of the University of Calabar, UNICAL, simply identified as Mr Ubong, has reportedly drowned in a hotel swimming pool in Calabar.
It was gathered that the incident occurred overnight during the week.
Ubong reportedly went to buy drinks and food at the bar and then dropped off his phone and went to the pool without informing anyone.
Sources at the hotel said that it was at about 2am when the barman, while rendering account, realised that someone had not paid his bills. That was when the search for Ubong started, it was said.

“They went round the hotel and found his clothes by the poolside but could not find him that night. It was around 11am the following morning that they saw his body floating in the swimming pool.
They called the police, who came and arrested the manager and the barman,” a source said.
Police spokesperson, Irene Ugbo, said she had not been briefed on the incident.
