Worshippers at a church in Orozo, a border community between the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, and Nasarawa State, apprehended a man identified as Oluwatimileyin Ajayi, who was found carrying the severed head of his girlfriend in a polybag during a church service.

The horrifying incident, which took place during a thanksgiving service around 11 a.m. on Sunday, has sent shockwaves through the Orozo community and across social media platforms, where graphic videos and images of the suspect and the decapitated head have gone viral.

Eyewitness accounts reveal that Ajayi, a gospel singer and songwriter, attended the church service under suspicious circumstances. Caleb Umaru, the church’s Bible Study teacher and General Secretary, recounted how a member noticed Ajayi acting strangely near the river close to the church. When confronted, Ajayi threw a black nylon bag into the river, which later turned out to contain the severed head of a young woman.

According to Umaru, two bikemen had earlier traced Ajayi to the church after noticing blood dripping from his bag. When confronted, the suspect initially denied any wrongdoing but later tried to flee. Worshippers and bikemen gave chase, eventually apprehending him in a nearby bush.

“It took the grace of God to catch him,” Umaru said, describing how the confrontation escalated. “He was injured and weak when we caught him, but no one knew the horrifying contents of the bag until it was opened later.”

Videos circulating online show a police officer interrogating Ajayi, who admitted to killing his girlfriend after an argument. According to Ajayi, the dispute began when he saw messages between her and another man on her phone. He claimed she attacked him with a knife, which he then used to stab her fatally.

Further investigation revealed that Ajayi was allegedly instructed by an unnamed woman to bring the severed head. While the suspect claimed he did not know his girlfriend’s relatives, he stated she was from the Mararaba or Nyanya area.

Ajayi, whose social media profiles identify him as a gospel singer, motivational speaker, and songwriter, gained modest attention after releasing his album, God of the Earth, in 2020. However, his shocking actions have overshadowed his musical career, leaving netizens and former fans in disbelief.

The police have taken Ajayi into custody, along with the decapitated head, as investigations continue. The incident has sparked outrage and calls for justice, with many condemning the gruesome act and questioning how someone perceived as a figure of faith could commit such a heinous crime.
