Massive shape-up as Oluyede approves redeployment, posting of senior army officers

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede has approved the posting and appointment of senior army officers to various command, staff and instructional positions.

Director Army Public Relations, Maj. Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, made this known in a statement on Saturday, noting that the redeployment is a strategic move to enhance operational effectiveness and administrative efficiency,

In the new development, Maj. Gen. M.C. Kangye from the headquarters of the Army Corps of Artillery becomes the director media operations at the Defence Headquarters.

The redeployment cuts across principal staff officers at the army headquarters, general officers commanding, corps commanders, commandants of army training institutions, brigade commanders and other key positions.

The reshufflement according to Maj. Gen. Nwachukwu, underscores the army’s commitment to ensuring a robust and dynamic leadership structure capable of addressing emerging security challenges.

He stated that some of the senior officers appointed as principal staff officers at the army headquarters, include Maj Gen. L. A. Fejokwu, from the National Defence College to the Department of Army Administration as chief of administration (army); Maj. Gen. G.U. Chibuisi, from the Nigerian Army Resource Centre to the Department of Civil Military Affairs as chief of civil military affairs and Maj. Gen. A.S. Ndalolo, also from the Nigerian Army Resource Centre to the Department of Army Training as chief of training (army).

Others include, Maj. Gen. O.S. Abai, from the Department of Army Training to the Department of Army Transformation and Innovation, as chief of transformation and innovation and Maj. Gen. J. H. Abdussalam from the headquarters 6 Division to the Department of Special Services and Programmes as chief of special services and programmes, while Maj. Gen. E. I. Okoro has been redeployed from the Department of Army Logistics to the Department of Military Secretary as military secretary (army).

Senior officers appointed as general officers commanding include Maj. Gen. O. T. Olatoye from the Nigerian Army School of Infantry to the headquarters 82 Division/Joint Task Force (JTF) South East Operation UDO KA as GOC 82 Division/Commander JTF OPUK and Maj. Gen. E. F. Oyinlola from the Department of Military Secretary to the headquarters 3 Division as GOC 3 Division/ Commander ‘Operation SAFE HAVEN’.

The acting appointments of Maj. Gen. A. L. Haruna as GOC 7 Division/Commander Sector 1 JTF North East Operation ‘HADIN KAI’ and Maj. Gen. I. A. Ajose as GOC 8 Division/Commander Sector 2 JTF North West Operation ‘FANSAN YANMA’ among others have been confirmed substantive in the recent redeployment.

Other senior officers redeployed are Maj. Gen. G. O. Adeshina from the headquarters Army Signals to the Army Heritage and Future Centre and appointed director general, while Maj. Gen. G. M. Mutkut is posted from the Army Heritage and Future Centre to the headquarters of the Multi-National Joint Task Force Njamena as the force commander.

Senior officers appointed as corps commanders include Maj. Gen. O. C. Ajunwa from the Army Heritage and Future Centre to the headquarters Army Armour Corps as commander; Maj. Gen. H. T. Wesley from the Department of Special Services and Programmes to the headquarters Army Ordinance Corps, as commander and Maj. Gen. T. T. Numbere from the Army Heritage and Future Centre to the headquarters Army Engineers as commander.

Others include Maj. Gen. N. C. Ugbo from the Department of Civil Military Affairs to the headquarters Army Signals as commander; Maj. Gen. Z. L. Abubakar from the Department of Army Transformation and Innovation to the headquarters Army Corps of Artillery as commander and Maj. Gen. A. P. Oguntola from the Army College of Education Science and Technology to the headquarters Army Education Corps as corps commander.

Also affected in the redeployment are Maj. Gen. J. O. Sokoya, appointed as commandant, Army Training Centre, Maj. Gen. U. M. Alkali as commandant, Army War College, while Maj. Gen. F. S. Etim from the Department of Army Transformation and Innovation is redeployed to the Army School of Infantry, as commandant, while Maj. Gen. A. B. Mohammed has been redeployed from the Department of Army Operations to Depot Nigerian Army as commandant.

Other newly appointed senior officers are Maj. Gen. I. E. Ekpenyong, now commandant Army School of Military Engineering and Maj. Gen. A. O. Adegbite appointed as commandant, Army School of Supply and Transport, while Brig. Gen. A. M. Umar is redeployed from the Army War College to the Warrant Officers Academy as commandant, among others.

The statement added that the chief of army staff has directed all the newly appointed senior officers to bring renewed vigour, dedication and commitment to their duties, particularly while ensuring the sustenance of the ongoing onslaught against terrorism, insurgency and other threats to national security.

He equally charged them to ensure that the welfare of troops remain paramount as they assume their new roles.
