The Everton midfielder and Nigeria international, Alex Iwobi has been criticised for being inconsistent after the Merseyside club were beaten in their Premier League clash with Southampton during the weekend.
Iwobi, in last week’s tie against Leeds United at Goodison Park, was commended for performing brilliantly as the Toffees resuscitated their campaign to record a 3-0 win.
More so, the outstanding performance by Iwobi was hinged at a turning point for the Toffees who recently appointed Frank Lampard to revive the club’s Premier League campaign but to the dismay of Everton’s fans and pundits, the player failed to replicate the same feat in the Southampton’s match.
In the clash with Southampton, who outclassed the resuscitating Toffees, Everton’s early momentum in the game was later allayed with stiff resistance from The Saints.
Nevertheless, Everton’s boss must be aware of the enormous task ahead of him as the club which currently sits at the 16th position will continue to be wary of the threats from the clubs presently occupying the relegation zone.

However, from the game statistics against Leeds United, Iwobi created 61 perfect touches throughout the game and also created five goal-scoring chances to put Everton ahead which was not surpassed by any one player on the pitch.
A game does not make a player exceptional but the Everton fans saw Iwobi as the powerful attacking midfielder to aid Lampard in removing the cobwebs knitted over the club by former boss Rafa Benitez.
The Southampton clash was a reality check for the Nigeria Super Eagle to assert the confidence reposed on him by the Toffees fans but at the tail end, he bore a major part of supporters’ wrath.
According to some supporters on social media, one stated that the Everton’s midfielder was mentally weak, another characterised him as being a passenger, while others’ comments ridiculed him as being of a championship stock.
With the inconsistency of Iwobi in the current campaign, while being aware of the task ahead of Frank Lampard, soccer pundits are on the lookout to see if Iwobi, who according to them performs in one out of every ten games, will be dropped from the starting line up from Everton subsequent matches.
