UniAbuja promotes 33 to professorial rank, 154 staff members across ranks

The University of Abuja has announced the promotion of 154 staff members to various ranks, a move approved by the institution’s Governing Council. Among the promotions, 33 academic staff were elevated to professorial ranks, with 19 attaining the title of professor and 14 promoted to associate professor.

The Governing Council, chaired by Air Vice Marshal Saddiq Ismaila Kaita (rtd), also approved the elevation of 20 staff to senior lecturer, six to lecturer I, and one to lecturer II. Additionally, 94 non-teaching staff received promotions, including two elevated to deputy director and six to assistant director positions.

The promotions were finalized during the Council’s 98th Regular Meeting, held from December 10 to December 14, 2024. The Acting Director of Information and University Relations, Dr. Habib Yakoob, and the Acting Registrar, Mrs. Islamiyat Foyeke Abdulrahim, confirmed the details in an official statement.

The promotions span diverse academic and professional disciplines, reflecting the institution’s commitment to fostering excellence. Notable areas of expertise include automobile engineering, energy engineering, library management, international economic law, environmental and development law, political sociology, media and conflict studies, cardiology, educational administration and planning, medical microbiology, banking law and policy, science education, curriculum studies, English language education, sociology of dance, and applied geophysics.

Acting Vice Chancellor, Professor Aisha Sani Maikudi, lauded the dedication and discipline of the promoted staff, emphasizing the university’s commitment to timely career advancement. She expressed satisfaction with the Governing Council’s support in ensuring deserving staff receive due recognition.

“These promotions reflect the University of Abuja’s commitment to fostering excellence, recognizing merit, and encouraging growth among its staff. I congratulate all the promoted individuals and urge them to uphold the university’s vision of academic and professional distinction,” Professor Maikudi stated.

She further noted that the university has resolved all outstanding promotion backlogs, ensuring fairness and transparency. Pending cases are now awaiting external assessments, underscoring the institution’s dedication to meritocracy and timely recognition of achievements.
