Delta State Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, has called on Nigerians to remain united and resilient in the face of economic and security challenges, even as he expressed deep sympathy for families who lost loved ones in recent food-sharing stampedes across the country.

Speaking shortly after attending a Christmas service at the Living Faith Church, also known as Winners Chapel, Ibusa Road, Asaba, Governor Oborevwori delivered a heartfelt message of hope and solidarity.

He acknowledged the trying times Nigerians are facing and the pressing challenges confronting the nation but underscored the importance of national unity.

“There’s no where there’s no crisis in the world; it’s how you’re able to manage it. I think in Nigeria, we are managing our crisis very well. Most importantly, we are united, and I believe the major interest is Nigeria, not personal interest,” the governor said.

Reflecting on the recent tragedies where lives were lost during food-sharing events, the governor expressed his sorrow for the victims and their families. “Where we have stampedes, most of those days, it comes down to families over this loss. I pray for God to grant them the opportunity to bear the loss,” he said.

Governor Oborevwori expressed optimism for the year ahead, describing 2025 as a “year of consolidation.” He reassured Deltans and Nigerians at large that better days lie ahead. “Like I’ve said, 2025 will be a good year. That is my belief. And I pray for more unity in the United States and in Nigeria in general,” he stated.

He pointed that his decision to celebrate Christmas in Asaba, the state capital, rather than his hometown, was a deliberate effort to foster closer connections with residents.

“Last year, I did Christmas in my village, and I said, no, here is the capital. I need to celebrate the Christmas here with all of you. And I’m happy to be here this Christmas,” he explained.

Governor Oborevwori also assured Deltans of peace and safety throughout the festive period while expressing gratitude for the support his administration has received from the people.

“I want to assure the elders that throughout this celebration, there shall be peace everywhere. I wish them well and thank them for all the support they have given to this administration,” he said.

Emphasizing on the need for shared efforts to overcome the nation’s challenges, Oborewori said, “A lot of things have happened over the past few days. There’s no way you don’t have mistakes, but I believe we must stay united, keep the focus on Nigeria, and trust that better days are ahead.”

As Nigerians navigate the Christmas season amidst economic hardship and insecurity, Governor Oborevwori’s message served as a rallying call for unity, resilience, and hope.

The Christmas service, attended by a large congregation, included prayers for peace and prosperity, reinforcing the spirit of the season.
