The Federal Government has announced Wednesday and Thursday as public holidays to commemorate Christmas and Boxing Day.
The government also designated Wednesday, January 1, 2025, a public holiday to commemorate the start of the New Year.
Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, confirmed this in a statement signed by ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani on Monday in Abuja.
Tunji-Ojo extended greetings to Nigerians and encouraged the citizens to embrace the season’s values of love, peace, and unity.

The statement read: “The Christmas season is a good moment for both spiritual reflection and national renewal. As we celebrate the birth of Jesus, the prince of peace, let us demonstrate kindness and extend goodwill to one another, irrespective of our differences.”
He stressed the need for Nigerians to strengthen family and community bonds and foster harmony that contributes to national development.
