Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori has pledged to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the death in detention of Pa. James Oghoroko, President-General of the Okuama Community in Ughelli South Local Government Area of the state.
Pa. Oghoroko, who was detained for over 100 days following his arrest in August 2024, passed away at Bori Camp in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The governor who gave the assurance during a condolence visit to the family of the deceased, reaffirmed his commitment to enthrone justice and peace in the area.
The governor was represented by Chief Edwin Uzor, his Special Adviser on Peace Building and Conflict Resolution, who led a delegation that included the Chairman of Ughelli South Local Government Area, Lucky Avweromre on the condolence visit.
Gov. Oborewori assured the community that the state government is fully committed to uncovering the cause of Pa. Oghoroko’s death.
Also, he stressed the state government’s dedication to addressing the lingering boundary disputes in Okuama, which has been identified as the root cause of the ongoing crisis.

“The death of Pa. James Oghoroko is deeply regrettable, and the state government will take every necessary step to ensure that justice is served,” the governor stated.
He also reassured the Okuama community of his administration’s active involvement in promoting lasting peace and stability in the area.
Responding, Mr. Oghoroko Julius, eldest son of the late Pa. Oghoroko, expressed gratitude for the governor’s intervention.
He acknowledged the state government’s efforts so far and called for intensified action to secure the release of others still detained by the army.
Also speaking, Pst. Edewor Egedegbe, Secretary-General of the Ewu Clan Development Forum, urged Gov. Oborevwori to expedite initiatives aimed at resolving the boundary dispute that sparked the crisis.
“We appreciate the state government’s concern and the governor’s commitment to his promises. However, we appeal for increased efforts to ensure that no more lives are lost to this unfortunate situation,” Egedegbe said.
