Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State, has approved N465 million and allocated a parcel of land for the establishment of a National Orthopaedic Hospital in Azare, the headquarters of Hawul Local Government Council.
When established, the facility will provide specialized orthopaedic care for patients in the North East.
Gov. Zulum announced the development during a meeting with an accreditation team from the Federal Ministry of Health, led by Dr. Jimoh Saludeen, the Director of Hospital Services.
As part of the arrangement, the state government has agreed to cede ownership of the General Hospital, Azare, to facilitate the establishment of the orthopaedic hospital.
The allocated funds, according to Gov. Zulum, will be used to fully rehabilitate the existing facility and staff quarters.

“We have decided to move the General Hospital, Azare, to another location and approved N465 million for its rehabilitation. This includes the staff quarters.
“If additional support is needed, the state government is ready to assist in realizing the dream of establishing this hospital. While the federal government will own the facility, the people of Borno will be the greatest beneficiaries,” he added.
Earlier, the accreditation team from the Federal Ministry of Health, led by Dr. Saludeen, Director of Hospital Services, highlighted that the visit was part of the federal government’s plan to assess the proposed site for the hospital, following presidential approval.
He commended Gov. Zulum for his leadership and strong support for healthcare development in the state.
