The company supplying gas to the Ibom Power Company, Accugas says that it has remained consistent in supplying gas to the Ibom Power contrary to claims that its action or inaction resulted in the power outage experienced in parts of the Akwa Ibom State.

In a statement signed by the Communication Manager of Accugas, Mr. Okwudilli Onyia and made available to journalists in Uyo on Saturday, the company explained that the firm had remained consistent in supplying gas to Ibom Power Company since 2014.

It therefore, stated that the power outage was caused by the reported fault in the 132-KVA Ava – Itu transmission line which prevents power being transmitted from national grid to the state.

The statement read: “The power cut in Akwa Ibom State is entirely due to the reported fault in the 132-KV Aba-Itu transmission line, which, unfortunately, is preventing power being transmitted from the national grid into the state.

“It is imperative that the restoration of the Aba-Itu line is completed as soon as possible. Ibom Power Company is one of 23 thermal power generation companies which channel power to the national hrid, which in turn disseminates all accumulated power to each state of the federation through the electricity distribution companies.

“Accugas, a subsidiary of Savannah Energy therefore frees the parent company from involving and being responsible for the black- out in in the stste .

“Accugas Limited, a subsidiary of Savannah Energy, wishes to strongly deny the misinformation concerning its alleged involvement in the current power outage in Akwa Ibom State.”

The firm listed other development projects it has invested in in the state, including the US$45 million gas compression project at Accugas’ Uquo central processing facility at Esit Eket.

“Accugas’ commitments also extends to several social investment projects in the state.
All the foregoing investments and projects, including other imminent investments Accugas intends to make in the state, demonstrate the company’s long-term commitment to Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria.

“Accugas will continue to partner with, and support, the government of Akwa Ibom State towards achieving the government’s agenda for economic development and prosperity of the state,” the firm added.

It would be recalled that last week, the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno sacked the Managing Director of Ibom Power Company, Meyen Etukudoh as the state was plunged into darkness .

Etukudoh before he was relieved of his appointment, had accused Savannah Energy of refusing to supply gas to Ibom Power, causing the state to be cut of from electricity supply from the national grid.
