President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has posthumously conferred the National Honour of Commander of the Federal Republic (CFR) on the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja. This distinguished award was announced during his burial ceremony at the National Military Cemetery, Abuja, in recognition of his bravery, loyalty, and unwavering service to Nigeria.
President Tinubu, in his heartfelt address, praised Lt.-Gen. Lagbaja as a man of exceptional intellect, dedication, and patriotism.
“As an eternal symbol of our appreciation, I have granted the late Chief of Army Staff the posthumous National Honour of Commander of the Federal Republic (CFR). He was a trusted advisor whose formidable intellect and breadth of knowledge served this nation well,” the President stated.
The President described Lagbaja as a soldier par excellence, a leader whose commitment to the nation was unmatched. He hailed him as a “true patriot” who displayed uncommon valor and deeply cared about the welfare of his troops and their families.

The late General’s wife, Mariya Lagbaja, accepted the prestigious award on behalf of her husband.
