Wives of state governors have resolved to step up the fight against sexual and Gender Based Violence in their various states.
This was contained in a communique issued after a closed-door meeting of the wives of the governors of the 36 states held at the Government House, Abakaliki.
The communique was read by the Chairperson and first Lady of Kwara State, Prof. Olufolake Abdulrazaq and made available to newsmen.
The communique read: ” The forum affirms yet again its unwavering resolve to keep up the fight against sexual and gender-based violence in our various states.”
It added that the wives of the governors have collectively endorsed the Global Alliance for Vaccination Immunization Initiative, committing to sustained advocacy for HPV vaccine uptake to protect the health of girls.

“The next line of action is a selective sensitization of wives of local government chairmen on HPV vaccination cancer awareness,” the communique further stated.
The first ladies also pledged to vigorously advocate for adopting six months of paid maternity leave, by engaging state governors and state legislators to promote the policy across all states for improved maternity and child welfare.
The meeting attended by the wives of 23 state governors observed a minute silence for the late first lady of Akwa Ibom state.
