Newly sworn in Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo has hit the ground running with first major appointments to key positions in the State government.
Shortly after his swearing-in, Governor Okpebholo named Barrister Musa U. Ikhilor as Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Hon. Dr. Samson Osagie as Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, and Dr. Cyril Adams Oshiomhole as Commissioner for Health.
While the appointments of Dr. Osagie and Dr. Oshiomhole will be subject to screening and confirmation by the Edo State House of Assembly, Barr. Ikhilor appointment is with immediate effect.
Barr. Musa U. Ikhilor will be bringing over a decade of experience in legislative and governance expertise. Born on August 6, 1980, in Benin City, Ikhilor is an alumnus of Ahmadu Bello University, where he earned his LL.B in 2008 and later a Master’s in Telecommunications Law. He has served in various capacities in the National Assembly, including consulting on constitutional reform and gender equity issues. His leadership includes roles as Senior Special Assistant and Chief of Staff to the Deputy Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, showcasing a strong foundation in governance and legislative processes.

Hon. Dr. Samson Osagie, nominated for Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, is a seasoned legal expert with extensive practice across Nigeria and Africa. Born on November 11, 1967, in Uhunmwode Local Government Area, Dr. Osagie holds a first degree in law from Obafemi Awolowo University and a doctorate in Political Economy and Development Studies. A former two-term member of the Edo State House of Assembly and the House of Representatives, where he served as Minority Whip, Osagie is also the Vice President of the African Bar Association for the West African region.
Dr. Cyril Adams Oshiomhole, Governor Okpebholo’s nominee for Commissioner for Health, has a background in medicine and public health. Educated at Ahmadu Bello University, Oshiomhole earned his MBBS before pursuing advanced studies at Tulane University in Environmental Health, Toxicology, and Disaster Management. His postgraduate training includes clinical research at Harvard University and gastroenterology at Queen Mary University in London.
