The Nigeria senior men’s football team chief coach, Emmanuel Amuneke says Nigeria has a better chance to qualify ahead of the Black Stars of Ghana for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar if the team’s confidence and motivation are boosted by Nigerians.
The one-time African footballer of the year and Olympic gold medalist noted that despite the rivalry that exists between the Super Eagles and the Black Stars of Ghana, what is required by the team must be done to record successes in the two-legged qualifying tie.
The first leg of the qualifying matches for the 2022 Qatar FIFA World Cup, which is slated to take place in the Cape Coast in Ghana is expected to be a tough contest for Super Eagles who will travel to play on foreign soil.
Accordingly, the Super Eagles will also host the Ghanaian national team in the second leg clash of the qualifying matches at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja.

The match against the Black Stars will be Amuneke’s first match with the Super Eagles since he was appointed to assist the Technical Adviser Augustine Eguavoen as chief coach.
According to the media, Amuneke said, “Our mind now is on the game against Ghana, the AFCON is gone and even the least person on the street wants the Super Eagles to be in Qatar, I think that spirit and motivation, the positive vibes from everyone in the country will go a long way to help us.
“We can qualify surely, but we will need to do all the necessary things.
“In football, there are so many things and those at times determine the success of a team.
“Hopefully, when the time comes, Nigeria will be in a good position to compete with Ghana.
“It’s a known fact about the rivalry between Nigeria and Ghana and whether we like it or not, we are brothers,” he added.
Amuneke hopes to replicate the successes he recorded in the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup while managing the Nigeria national U17 football team with the Super Eagles.
