PSV Eindhoven claimed their first Champions League win of the season in style, routing 10-man Girona 4-0 in a commanding performance at the Philips Stadion on Tuesday.
Ryan Flamingo opened the scoring with his debut Champions League goal, slotting in Malik Tillman’s long throw. Tillman quickly doubled PSV’s lead with an impressive solo run and clinical finish. The dominance continued as Johan Bakayoko fired a low drive from the edge of the box, followed by an own goal from Girona’s Ladislav Krejci, sealing the Dutch club’s emphatic win.
Girona, now struggling in 26th place with three points, suffered a major blow when captain Arnau Martinez received a second yellow card just 10 minutes into the second half, leaving them unable to mount a comeback. PSV, bolstered by the victory, now move into the play-off places with five points and continue their push for Champions League advancement.

Girona’s Oriol Romeu admitted the team’s struggle post-red card: “The sending off hurt, and before that, we had hopes of scoring. Defeat is painful, but we have to adapt. Winning nine points just became much harder.”
Despite a few early threats, including a stunning double save by PSV’s Walter Benitez against Krejci and Bojan Miovski, Girona failed to regain momentum, leaving PSV in a strong position as the group stage progresses.
