In a show of solidarity with victims of Spain’s deadly flash floods, which have claimed at least 158 lives, LaLiga and its clubs are launching a nationwide fundraising campaign with the Red Cross. This weekend, LaLiga matches will promote the campaign across broadcasts and social media, encouraging donations to support affected communities.
“LaLiga and professional football in Spain express their deepest condolences to the families of those lost and missing,” LaLiga shared in a statement on Thursday. The Spanish league’s united response comes amid the worst floods the country has seen in decades, with communities struggling to recover.
Real Madrid has also stepped up, announcing a donation of one million euros ($1.09 million) to the Red Cross. The Real Madrid Foundation has joined forces with the Red Cross to launch a fundraising initiative for storm victims, with the Spanish champions pledging their support. “Our contribution aims to help families in critical need of aid and solidarity during this challenging time,” Real Madrid said in a heartfelt statement.

In addition to financial support, Valencia’s Mestalla Stadium has opened its doors as a drop-off point for essential items, including food and supplies, further amplifying efforts to help those in need. Meanwhile, the Spanish FA has postponed seven midweek Copa del Rey matches and all LaLiga games in Valencia’s region this weekend as a safety measure, asking that a minute’s silence be observed at upcoming matches in memory of the victims.
Among the postponed LaLiga matches are Real Madrid’s visit to Valencia and Villarreal’s clash with Rayo Vallecano, with six Copa del Rey games rescheduled for next week. LaLiga has requested that the 10 affected clubs submit proposals for new dates by next Tuesday.
