In a press briefing held on Monday, October 14, 2024, the Acting National Publicity Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Ibrahim Abdullahi Manga, addressed the ongoing crisis within the party, urging members to prioritize unity and avoid actions that could jeopardize its future.
Speaking from the National Working Committee (NWC) Hall at the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja, Manga condemned recent infighting, emphasizing the importance of preserving the party’s corporate existence amidst rising tensions.
Manga referenced the leadership wisdom of former U.S. President John F. Kennedy, stating, “Leadership and learning are indispensable to each other.” He urged party leaders to refrain from making decisions driven by personal interests and to adhere to the party’s constitution.
Suspension of Key Party Members
Manga highlighted the recent suspension of the National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, and the National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade, SAN, who face allegations of “abuse of office and insubordination.” Their suspension was a result of the 593rd NWC meeting held on October 10, 2024, where a four-man investigative committee, chaired by Deputy National Chairman (South), H.E. Amb Taofeek Arapaja, was formed to look into the charges.
The acting spokesperson reminded members that this is not the first time disciplinary measures have been taken within the party and called for those affected to cooperate with the investigation process. “Why destroy our great party over a collective decision instead of availing yourselves of the committee’s opportunity to clear your names?” he asked.

Clarification on Acting Roles
Manga further clarified that his assumption of office, along with Barr. Okechukwu Osuoha as Acting National Legal Adviser, was in full compliance with the PDP Constitution (2017, as amended), specifically citing Sections 40(2) and 42(2). He criticized recent media appearances suggesting their appointments were unconstitutional, calling such claims “misleading.”
Calls for Restraint and a Peaceful Resolution
In response to misinformation surrounding the suspensions, Manga appealed to party leaders and supporters to show restraint. He acknowledged the efforts of the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT), and other senior party leaders who are working towards an amicable resolution.
“We must not allow this situation to spiral out of control. The PDP remains Nigeria’s major opposition party and a beacon of hope for millions of Nigerians seeking a better future,” Manga stressed.
Security Measures and Rule of Law
In light of recent events, Manga warned that the PDP may involve security agencies to enforce the rule of law if further disruptions occur. He expressed disappointment in certain members’ “motor park approach” to the suspension and emphasized that the party is committed to upholding court orders and legal processes.
Moving Forward Under Acting Chairman Damagum
Manga concluded by urging PDP members to remain united under the leadership of Acting National Chairman, H.E. Amb Umar Iliya Damagum, as the party seeks to resolve internal disputes and strengthen its position as the leading opposition in Nigeria.
