In a chilling revelation, Ayomide Adeleye, a 23-year-old Philosophy student at Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), has confessed to the brutal murder of Christiana Idowu, an 18-year-old church member. This shocking crime has sent waves of outrage across the nation, with many questioning how a young boy like that could commit such a heinous act.
According to a Vanguard report on Sunday, the horrific incident came to light after Adeleye, now in police custody, admitted to luring the unsuspecting Christiana, an Industrial Training student at Yaba College of Technology, to his residence under the guise of repairing her phone. Once they got inside his apartment, he brutally strangled her to death. According to the report, Adeleye cited financial difficulties as his motive for the cold-blooded murder.
In his confession, he revealed the gruesome details of the crime:
“She came to our house around 5 pm that day, asking me to fix her phone. I just grabbed her, applied pressure, and squeezed her throat until she stopped breathing.”
Adeleye’s actions didn’t stop at murder. He buried the victim’s body in a shallow grave behind his compound and later contacted Christiana’s mother because he already hatched a manipulative plan to extort her by falsely claiming her daughter had been kidnapped and demanded N3million ransom, and he ultimately succeeded in extorting N360,000 from her.
“I knew she didn’t have the N3 million I demanded, so I settled for whatever she could get. She transferred N350,000 to a SportyBet account I provided, and I later asked for an additional N10,000,” Adeleye confessed.

In a twist of fate, Adeleye’s greed became his downfall. His SportyBet account, which he used to receive the ransom money, was linked to his National Identification Number (NIN). This mistake allowed authorities to track him down and make an arrest.
“If I hadn’t uploaded my NIN, they might not have found me. But with my details attached to the account, they traced me. I regret everything,” he admitted.
Adeleye, now reflecting on his crime, expressed deep remorse. “I don’t deserve mercy for what I’ve done. I regret it deeply because our mothers were friends. I have even considered taking my own life in custody because I can’t live with what I’ve done.”
His confession has left the nation in shock, as more details emerge about the disturbing case. The Lagos State Police Command Tactical Unit continues its investigation, ensuring that justice is served for Christiana Idowu.
