Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has sponsored 180 students for advanced studies in Malaysia and India.
The move, according to him, is part of his administration’s commitment to education and human capital development.
The beneficiaries, as observed by The Trumpet, include 12 PhD and 53 master’s students at Sharda University, India, and another 12 PhD and 73 master’s candidates at Integral University, India.
Adding that, 29 students will pursue master’s and PhD programs at various universities in Malaysia.
At a send-off ceremony held at the Government House in Maiduguri, the state capital, the governor urged the students to focus on their studies and emphasized the role they will play in Borno State’s development.

“We expect each of you to exhibit a strong dedication to your studies and future professional roles. Your dedication is crucial to ensuring that the benefits of your education contribute directly to Borno State’s progress,” the governor said.
Zulum was also observed to have approved a monthly allowance of $150 for the students’ upkeep, in addition to the significant investment in their education.
“Nearly N2 billion will be spent annually on your tuition alone. We have also approved an additional monthly allowance to support your stay abroad. With these opportunities come great responsibilities,” Zulum remarked.
