The Federal Government has commenced the sale of 30,000 metric tonnes of milled rice to Nigerians at a heavily subsidized rate ofbN40,000 per 50-kilogram bag. This move is aimed at easing the burden of rising food prices on citizens, especially amid the country’s current economic challenges.
The official distribution was launched on Thursday in Abuja by Abubakar Kyari, who emphasized the significance of the intervention at this critical time. “This food intervention is timely, considering the difficulties we are facing as a nation,” Kyari stated during the launch.

He added, “It is my pleasure to welcome you all to this historic and long-awaited event— the inauguration of the sale of 30,000 metric tonnes of milled rice at a subsidized rate of N40,000 per 50 kilograms. This initiative is part of the Federal Government’s ongoing effort to reduce food insecurity.”
Kyari further acknowledged President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, noting that this initiative was born out of the president’s dedication to ensuring that no Nigerian goes to bed hungry. “This generous act is a direct result of President Tinubu’s vision and commitment to alleviating hunger in our country,” he said.
