Hamster Kombat, the wildly popular tap-to-earn game on Telegram, has officially announced the launch of its much-awaited token. The team has revealed that the HMSTR token will be distributed via an airdrop to users on September 26, sparking excitement across the platform.

This announcement comes after the project’s initial token release, scheduled for July, was delayed. According to an update posted on July 29, users can now access the airdrop section in their Hamster Kombat app to discover which items will play a role in the token distribution process.

Since its debut on March 26, Hamster Kombat has skyrocketed in popularity. Reports suggest the Telegram group boasts over 87 million monthly users, and the platform claims to have surpassed the 116 million user mark, outpacing giants like WhatsApp and Instagram.

However, some critics argue that these numbers might be inflated. Observers point out that there’s no clear way to verify the actual number of active players, raising concerns about the platform’s transparency.

Dovey Wan, Founder of Primitive Ventures, has voiced skepticism over Hamster Kombat’s growth, attributing it to what she calls “industrial farming.” She criticizes the game’s model, suggesting it should be dubbed “tap-to-fake” rather than “tap-to-earn.”

Adding to the intrigue, the announcement of the airdrop coincides with a controversial development involving Telegram’s CEO and founder, Pavel Durov. Durov was recently arrested in France on serious charges, including distributing child pornography, drug trafficking, and unauthorized use of cryptology.

With the token launch just weeks away, the Hamster Kombat community is buzzing with anticipation, despite the ongoing controversies. As the date approaches, all eyes will be on whether this ambitious project can live up to the hype—or if it will crumble under scrutiny.
