In a shocking incident late Wednesday night, two Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) buses collided in Lagos, leaving several passengers injured. The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) swiftly responded to the scene, rescuing the injured and providing emergency care.
Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, confirmed the details in a statement, revealing that the accident occurred at the Iyana-Ipaja inward Pleasure Road corridor, a busy route known for its high traffic.
The collision reportedly happened when one of the BRT buses attempted to avoid hitting a commercial motorcyclist who was illegally plying the BRT corridor. In the process, the bus collided with another incoming BRT bus, resulting in a serious crash.

Thankfully, no lives were lost in the incident, but several passengers from both buses sustained varying degrees of injuries. LASEMA’s Dolphin Response Team from the Igando Base was immediately dispatched to the scene following distress calls made through the agency’s 767 and 112 toll-free emergency lines at 11:39 PM.
The injured passengers were promptly taken to the nearest hospital for medical treatment. Meanwhile, two tow trucks were deployed to clear the damaged buses from the road, ensuring the restoration of traffic flow in the area.
This incident highlights the ongoing challenges with traffic management and illegal road usage in Lagos, raising concerns about the safety of public transportation in the city. Authorities are urged to enforce stricter regulations to prevent such accidents in the future.
