The Senate President Senator Godswill Akpabio , Minister of Petroleum Resources Obongenem Ekperikpe Ekpo and other chieftains of the All Progressive Congress (APC) were honoured with various awards at the weekend by OrukAnam local government chapter of the Movement of the People (MOP) in Akwa Ibom state.
Speaking during the inauguration of local government chapter of the Movement in OrukAnam last weekend, Akpabio said the movement is intended to mobilize and provide assistance to the forgotten people in his senatorial district.
Akpabio who received award of Ekpe 1 of OrukAnam noted that after elections, the downtrodden are always forgotten by their leaders adding that he will change the narrative in his own constituency.
The Senate President who was represented by Hon Nsetip Akpabio explained that Movement of the People (MOP) is a non political and socio cultural Organization founded during the campaign for Senate seat in the senatorial district by senator Godswill Akpabio to take care of neglected persons in the area.
He said the Movement is replicated across the 10 local government areas in the senatorial district with a slogan “Ayaubehe” meaning everything about Senator Godswill Akpabio will concern everybody in the senatorial district.
“This was founded to cater for palm wine tappers, poor people, widows, petty farmers and people living with disabilities.
“These are people that are always sincere. They don’t tell lies, they don’t cheat anybody. Whatever you want them to do, they will do it correctly.
“We want to empower them. Whatever we have we will contribute for them. The disable persons are the ones we can assist.”
Nsetip said the wife of the Senate President Her Excellency Ekaette Unoma Akpabio has given bags of rice to share to the above group of persons.
“Her Excellency Ekaette Unoma Akpabio ,the wife of the Senate President has given me bags of rice to share with them . We will bring the rice on a separate day.

“She has also given rice to different categories of people . This is the purpose of the movement in the Senate President’s senatorial district. ”
The state chairman of APC in the state, Obong Stephen Ntokekpo said the movement will be sustained in line with Akpabio’s spirit of philanthropy which he is known for within and outside state.
The state chairman of APC Obong Stephen Ntokekpo who also received an award from the movement said he was delighted to see many people coming out to identify with APC and the Senate President Godswill Akpabio in his senatorial district.
“I am very glad to witness the sea of heads that have come out for the inauguration of Movement of the People (MOP) in OrukAnam chapter.
“The people of Akwa Ibom state have discovered that my leader in the person of Godswill Akpabio deserves followership.” He said.
Other recipients of the award include Obongenem Ekperikpe Ekpo who received excellent award, former chairman of OrukAnam local government area Dr David UmoEssien , Kingsley Inam among others.
