Landowners in Taraba State, where the Federal University of Wukari (FUW) is situated, have expressed joy as Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas began disbursing compensation payments.
The payments, which are being distributed in phases, come twelve years after the land was initially acquired.
Our state correspondent observed that previous administrations had failed to compensate the 182 landowners, prompting them to take legal action against both the state government and the university’s management.
In an exclusive interview, the landowners’ counsel, Barrister P.M. Shagnah, confirmed that the current administration has started the long-awaited payments.
“The government of Taraba State under Governor Agbu Kefas has commenced payment of compensation to the 182 farm owners whose land was acquired for the establishment of the Federal University, Wukari,” he stated.

Shagnah praised the governor’s commitment to addressing debts incurred by previous regimes, noting that funds have been approved and released for the beneficiaries.
The Secretary of the Beneficiaries Association, Bawa Adi, echoed Shagnah’s sentiments, acknowledging the government’s prompt response. He confirmed that funds have already been disbursed to the beneficiaries in the first installment.
Both Shagnah and Adi commended the government’s efforts and urged landowners who have yet to receive their payments to remain patient, assuring them that all efforts are being made to ensure the timely availability of their funds.
