In a recent development, the Adamawa State Police Command has successfully apprehended a 53-year-old Internally Displaced Person (IDP), Usman Tela Ahmadu, on charges of allegedly raping a mentally challenged girl.
The spokesperson for the Police Command, Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, confirmed this arrest during a briefing on Thursday.
Ahmadu, a resident of Samunaka in Yola North Local Government Council, reportedly committed the heinous act multiple times against the mentally challenged minor.
Originally from Maiduguri in Borno State, Ahmadu had found refuge as an Internally Displaced Person in Samunaka, where he allegedly took advantage of the assistance and support provided by the community.

The suspect admitted to sexually assaulting the mentally challenged girl on four occasions starting in the year 2021.
Expressing concern, Commissioner of Police, Afolabi Babatola, urged parents and guardians to fulfill their responsibilities in providing for their wards, preventing them from falling victim to individuals with malicious intent.
Assuring the public, the commissioner emphasized that there would be no sanctuary for criminals in Adamawa State, highlighting the implementation of strategies to combat Gender-Based Violence and other criminal activities.
