The Chairman of Akwa Ibom state chapter of Chartered Institute of Personnel Management (CIPM) Dr Rosalyn Eniefiok Essien has said that the emergence of artificial intelligence is not a threat to Human Resources professionals and their practice.

Speaking with newsmen in Uyo on Saturday during a road walk by members of CIPM to mark the 2023 International Human Resources Day with the theme “HR Shaping the New Future ” Mrs Essien explained that the advent of artificial intelligence is an opportunity for Human Resources experts to design means of becoming more relevant in their daily practice.

” Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a situation that other objects will be doing what human beings are supposed to do in their workplace.

” People see it as a threat but we don’t see it as a threat because there is no way you will not need human beings wherever you are working.

” So we don’t see it as a threat. Before artificial intelligence takes over, the Human Resources practice will continue. Human Intelligence will be ahead of them.”

Essien further disclosed that the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management has done training and Certifications to surpass artificial intelligence.

“Of course, you know that CIPM is the apex regulatory body for HR practice in Nigeria. We also have branches in the UK.

” Human Resources is very important in any organisation because we are the ones that will discipline, train staff and regulate what is happening in the organisation .”

She, therefore, urged new professionals to join the institute to sharpen their practice.

The Vice Chairman of the Institute Mr Oliver Bernard listed the duties of Human Resources Managers to include advising Executives and Management of Industries on what to do at any time.

” The theme of this year’s celebration is for us to review all the things we do in terms of technology affecting the future and the role HR practitioners have to play to surpass artificial intelligence.

” There is something now called Artificial Intelligence and it is built in such a way that it can handle as many jobs as possible. What most companies are doing now is laying off their workers while applying artificial intelligence

” What we are doing to advise Executives and Management on what to do in a time like this ?” he asked
