Oyeyemi who described Akwa Ibom as one of safest state and most pleasurable states to drive in, by long distant drivers in Nigeria, said that the news of Professor Eno Ibanga’s support to the Akwa Ibom State command of the Corp is pleasing to the headquarters of the command.

“Akwa Ibom State is one of the safest states in this country and for long distant drivers, immediately you enter Akwa Ibom, the ride becomes very pleasurable because of good roads and near absence of portholes on the highways”.

He said that road safety is a shared responsibility of all citizens, and appreciated the Works Commissioner for playing his own role.

“The Corp Marshall in Abuja instructed me to personally come and decorate Professor Eno Ibanga as Honourary Special Marshall of the Commission. The duty of road safety is a shared responsibility and the Commission is very appreciative of Professor Ibanga for playing his role by always coming to the aid of the Akwa Ibom State command whenever we beckon on him”.

“Don’t make phone calls while driving. Women should not carry babies on their laps while driving because if there is an emergency the baby may have spinal cord injury. Also, the renewal of driver’s licenses helps the Commission to test drivers and ascertain if their eyes, character and health are still fit for them to be licensed. This is why we insist on renewal of driver’s license”. He said.

In response Ibanga said he had dedicated the honour to his boss, Governor Udom Emmanuel, adding that since the governor assumed office in 2015, he has ensured safety and serenity in Akwa Ibom State.

Ibianga observed that building road Infrastructure in the state has ensured the safety of road users and made the state a destination of choice in the country.

His words, “The real beauty of a state or city is in the safety. That is why I dedicate this honour to Governor Udom Emmanuel. Since our Governor assumed office in 2015, the safety and serenity of Akwa Ibom State have always topped his agenda. Akwa Ibom State is currently retaining the batch as the cleanest state in Nigeria for the third year, and the safety of this state in the committee of states in the country is what has made us the destination of choice in Nigeria of today”.

Ibanga explained that the present state government has constructed hundreds of roads, and would soon commission about twenty new roads to enhance hitch-free movement across the state.

The Commissioner noted that the encroachment of major roads and highways across the state by traders is dangerous to the safety of road users.

He disclosed that the state government at the last state executive meeting had taken a drastic decision to permanently displace traders from the highways.
