Ugborikoko community in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State has vowed to resist any attempt by a few individuals to make the community a drug haven.
Chairman of the community who doubles as the Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth Mobilisation, Comrade Kabi Ogolor, stated this while addressing journalists at the Community Secretariat recently.
He expressed disappointment at the manner and way the police authority handled the case of the major drug kingpin in the community.
“The community has been ravaged by drug dealers thereby making the youths drug addicts, unproductive and resorting to all manner of social vices.
“There are different cartels of drug dealers in the community with various names. Our youths are the highest consumers of hard drugs.
“One Randy Omovie is the kingpin of all the drugs cartel. Even the elders are afraid of him.
“On 31st of December, 2021 at about 10:00 am, I mobilise a handful of youths who desire the good of the community, in collaboration with the Area Command, Warri, together with Executive Chairman of Uvwie Council, Hon. Ramson Tega Onoyake.
“With the firm support from His Excellency, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, we raided the drug dealers hideout. Randy Omovie was apprehended during that raid with a large number of drugs and an AK 47 Rifle were found. We also visited all the drugs cartel hideouts where cocaine, codeine, marijuana, and other hard drugs were found.
“Randy and other suspects were handed over to the Area Commander. He was later transferred to State command, Asaba but we were surprised that Randy and his cohorts were released not long after, without proper investigation and he is currently threatening to unleash terror on innocent community members.
“There is palpable tension in the community as we speak because he boasted that he is coming for everyone that was involved in his arrest.
“But we are not afraid of his threats. We are calling on the Police and other security agents to come to our aid. Randy & his dangerous cohorts should be made to face the full wrath of the law.
“We are also calling on our amiable Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, Uvwie LGA Chairman, Hon. Ramson Onoyake and other leaders of thought from the community to come to our aid to avoid bloodshed shortly. We are peace-loving people and do not want anarchy”, he stated.
When contacted, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Edafe Bright, said: “If the offence is bailable, the person can be bailed”.
