Ifira-Akoko youths in Akoko South-East Local Government Area of Ondo State have protested against an alleged plan to impose one Mr Oluwadare Ariwajoye as the next monarch of the town, The Trumpet gathered.
The youths who protested at the governor’s office in Akure today alleged that the candidate was not an indigene of the town and that the process was against the tradition of the community.
The protesters who were seen carrying placards with different inscriptions urged Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu to intervene in the matter before it escalate into crisis.
The stool of Ifira Akoko became vacant following the death of Oba Anthony Olugboja.
Some of the placards read, ‘We don’t want a person who doesn’t understand our dialect, ‘Ifira people need a competent king’ ‘We say no to Ariwajoye as king of Ifira,’ among others

The protesters alleged that some political appointees were using governor Akeredolu’s names to manipulate the selection process of the new king, adding that the governor has never been involved in the selection of any Oba in the state since he assumed office as the Executive Governor of our dear state.
Addressing the protesters, the Permanent Secretary of the state Ministry Of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr Segun Ipinsanya, said the state government would ensure that due process is followed as well as look into the kingmaker’s process in picking the new monarch.
He said Governor Akeredolu did not send anyone to manipulate the process of selecting the new king and urged youths to be law-abiding while expressing thier grievances.
