US police have launched an investigation to unravel the identity of a gunman who committed suicide at the barricade in the US Capitol building.
According to reports by the Capitol Police, the human drove his car towards the barricade at the US Capitol building where he shot some rounds into the air before shooting himself.
Although nobody was hurt in the incident which included a scene of the car bursting into flames, Capitol police claimed that the gunman was targeting neither the members of Congress, who are on recess nor anyone.
“At this time, it does not appear the man was targeting any Members of Congress, who are on recess, and it does not appear officers fired their weapons,” Capitol Police said in a statement.
“Our investigators are looking into the man’s background.’
“When our officers heard the sound of gunfire, they immediately responded and were approaching the man when he shot himself,” the police authorities added.
