The Zamfara State Police Command on Thursday organised a colourful farewell parade for the State’s Commissioner of Police, CP Ayuba Elkanah, to mark his historic retirement after 32 years of serving the nation in the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).
The ceremony was held at the capital city of the State, Gusau.
CP Elkanah, who was being bid farewell alongside other men and officers of the Command, received awards, commendations and gifts from officers and other stakeholders.
While presenting his farewell address, CP Elkanah appreciated God, the Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, AIG Zone 10, AIG Bello Sani Dalijan, Traditional Rulers and other stakeholders for the strength and support he was given in his service years.
“My historical service career in the Nigeria Police will not be complete without mentioning Zamfara State. This is because, only in Zamfara State Command, I serve in three (3) different capacities, First as DC CID; Second as DC Operations and above all as Commissioner of Police.
“In these periods, the successes I achieved would not have been made possible without the support and assistance of our indefatigable Governor, His Excellency Dr. Mohammed Bello MON, Matawallen Maradun, Barden Kasar Hausa and Shettiman Sokoto. I must appreciate our workaholic Deputy Governor, His Excellency, Senator Hassan Mohammed Nasiha, The SSG, the Chief of Staff, the Head of Service and all Members of the State Executive Council.
“For the Speaker Zamfara State House of Assembly, Hon. Nasiru Mu’azu Magarya and all Members of the Federal and State Houses of Assemblies, I appreciate your support towards my success in the State.
“Therefore, I must thank His Excellency and his Government for this wonderful gesture. Let me use this medium to assure His Excellency that my relationship with Zamfara people will not end here, as I will continue to see Zamfara as one of my finest homes where I will be visiting from time to time,” he said.
CP Elkanah said he was happy that he retired with honour and dignity while wishing his colleagues the same grace to complete their service years successfully.
“As I said earlier, today marks the end of my career as a Police officer and having retired successfully with honour and dignity. I’m excited and humbled by this privilege, and pray that all of you will one day retire and go back to your respective homes Hale and hearty.
“In achieving this, you require much sacrifice and commitment. This also includes your ability to learn from past and present experiences and try to exhibit professionalism in the discharge of your duty, and by doing so, you will gain the respect and acceptance of your host communities,” he said.
