Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel has joined French Ligue 1 OGC Nice on a free transfer after Aaron Ramsey’s move, to bring an end to his eleven years reign in the King Power Stadium.
The 35-year-old Danish who joined Leicester in 2011 from Leeds United to make 478 appearances in all competitions, played a vital role when the club lifted their maiden Premier League title in 2016.
In a statement by Leicester City Chairman, Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha, to confirm the departure of Schmeichel, he described him as a captain who distinctively manned up his responsibilities.
Srivaddhanaprabha said the goalkeeper commanded leadership both on the field of play and off it which was exceptional in all aspects of his life.
He said, “Throughout his time with us and particularly as a captain and vice-captain, Kasper has always been a player willing to stand up and take responsibility, leading the team with distinction.
“His influence and his leadership on and off the pitch speak volumes about him as a professional, as a football player and as a human being.

“I know Leicester City supporters share the respect we all have for a player of Kasper’s standing after all his accomplishments as a footballer and captain and will join me in wishing him the very best for the next stage of his career in France with OGC Nice.
“It’s clear to everyone who has watched him perform that Kasper has given everything to Leicester City every time he has played and the experiences shared between him, the Club and our supporters over the last 11 years mean he will always remain a part of this family,” Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha added.
Schmeichel started his career in the Manchester City youth side before he was loaned to Darlington in 2006. He underwent a loan spell in the Scottish league with Falkirk and also played for Cardiff, Bury, and Coventry before he joined Notts County permanently.
The Denmark international who has been capped 84 times for the national team, won the FA Cup, Community Shield and Championship titles during his time in England.
