Super Falcons defender Glory Ogbonna said the dream of the Nigeria women’s senior national football team is to win the tenth title of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON)/in Morocco to remain indefatigable in the continent.

Ogbonna, who was on the pitch against the Lionesses of Cameroon where Nigeria earned a hard-fought victory to clinch the qualifying ticket to the World Cup and booked a semi-final tie with host nation Morocco, conceded that there are contending teams in the tournament.

According to the defender that plays in the Swedish female league for Umeå IK, the Super Falcons narrowly edged out the Lionesses owing to their determination to qualify for the Australia and New Zealand World Cup and also to strengthen their grip on continental football. The Trumpet Gathered

Ogbonna said, “We want to win the trophy for a record 10th time to remain the dominant force in Africa Women football.

“Beyond Africa, we are also looking at winning the Women World Cup,” she added.

“Like I have previously said, there is no longer a small team in Africa and moreover that the Cameroonians are also one of the biggest teams in Africa.

“We won that game with determination to qualify for the World Cup and also enhance our chances of retaining the Africa Women trophy that we last won,” the Umeå IK defender added.

The Super Falcons is scheduled to play the host nation on Monday in the semifinal and Ogbonna though respects Morocco stressed that the Nigerian female team are losing sleep over the decisive encounter.

She added, “We are very focused on our next match which incidentally is against the host team.”

Meanwhile, head coach of the Super Falcons Randy Waldrum after the encounter with the Lionesses, praised the team’s performances which culminated into Nigeria booking a World Cup spot in 2023.

I’m proud of my team,” Waldrum said in a post-match interview.

“The most difficult task for us is to get to this point. “We had difficulties from the beginning, to overcome pitfalls. But the players defended themselves and found a way to win.

“Honestly, we are very excited to have qualified for the World Cup,” he added.

Nigeria face the Atlas of Morocco in a cracking encounter on Monday but the nine-time African champions are upbeat to dislodge the host team for the final spot
