- declares August 16th as annual prayer day
The Deji of Akure Kingdom, Oba (Dr.) Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi, Odundun II, has declared 16th of August every year as prayer day in his kingdom, and amongst Akure indigenes globally.
In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Adeyeye Michael, the Monarch made the declaration at a morning thanksgiving prayer service organized to commemorate his 7th coronation anniversary in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
While addressing the early morning worshippers at his palace, the monarch appreciated God for His mercies and goodness throughout his seven years on the throne in the ancient city of Akure.
He said, “There is nothing I could have achieved if not for God, who had been on my side. I decided to mark this year’s thanksgiving service, because of the enormity of what God has done for me and all my accomplishments within these seven years that I have been on the throne.
“We know that as a people, the incident of 1983 was indeed a trying period, which we prayed never to witness again. However, we must go back to basics and commit our ways of life to God. We will therefore use this date, August 16th of every year, as a day set aside to commit ourselves and Akure Land to God. We will pray for the good of the land, Ondo State and the Country in general. We will surely overcome the amalgams of challenges occasioned by that incident under reference.”

Oba Aladetoyinbo, who recalled the ugly incident of August 16, 1983 and described it as a major setback for the Kingdom, urged the people to continue to pray for the city.
According to him, he is aware of the pockets of challenges that are threatening the unity in the Kingdom, and expressed optimism that the unity of the Kingdom will be achieved under his watch as there is no sacrifice too much to achieve unity.
He thanked God that Akure had witnessed a great turnaround during his reign and prayed that God will continue to guide him in making rightful decisions and leading the people in his Kingdom right with the fear of God.
Oba Aladetoyinbo became the 47th Deji of Akure Kingdom on the 8th of July, 2015.
