Delta State Governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, on Tuesday swore in three new judges into the state High Courts with a charge for them to exhibit the qualities of impartiality, courage, integrity, patience, humility, wisdom and common sense.
He also swore in one Customary Court Judge and another as a member of Delta State Judicial Service Commission.
The governor, who performed the swearing in ceremony at Government House, Asaba, also re-echoed his caution against the frivolous use of injunctions and the frequent adjournments of cases, which, according to him, not only leads to delay and congested courts but has also contributed to negative perception of the judiciary in the court of public opinion.
He pointed that their appointments were in line with laid down procedures enshrined in Section 271, sub-section (2) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) and based on the recommendations of the National Judicial Council.

He said, “To the appointees, it is my earnest expectation that as you commence your journey as privileged Members of the Bench, you will consistently demonstrate the proper judicial temperament expected of your office.
“Your ethical conduct must be above reproach bearing in mind that justice for one is justice for all, and you need to prioritize personal development through continuing legal education as a prerequisite for excellence.
“Traditionally, the judiciary in a constitutional democracy is saddled with the responsibilities of interpreting the constitution, upholding the federal principle of maintaining the balance between the various organs of government, adjudicating and interpreting the laws made by the legislature, testing the validity of such laws, and above all, guarding and protecting the fundamental rights of the citizens.”
Those appointed include Diai Christopher Dumebi, High Court; Odebala Ekuogbe Obaro, High Court; Gesikeme-Akebofah Angonumere Mary, High Court; Akumagba Ete Francis, Customary Court and Dennis Agbaga, Delta State Judicial Service Commission.
