The announcement marks a major milestone for the hip-hop star, whose company, Roc Nation, has partnered with the National Football League (NFL) since 2019 to oversee entertainment and talent selection for the annual halftime show.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said he had expressed a desire for Jay-Z to eventually perform at the event when the league initially reached an agreement with Roc Nation to produce the show.
Goodell disclosed that his request had always been for the rapper to take the stage himself whenever he felt the time was right.
Jay-Z, who serves as an entertainment strategist and social justice adviser to the NFL through Roc Nation, has played a key role in selecting performers for the halftime show in recent years, ESPN reported.
