A Clash Of Bronze Medallists
Thursday’s encounter against Mexico brings together two teams with a history of winning bronze medals at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
Nigeria claimed their first-ever podium finish at the competition in 2022 in India after defeating Germany 3-2 on penalties in the third-place match following a dramatic 3-3 draw.
The Flamingos had established a 3-0 lead after 63 minutes before Germany fought back to level the score, forcing a penalty shootout at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
Mexico, meanwhile, secured bronze at last year’s tournament in Morocco after defeating Brazil 3-1 on penalties following a 1-1 draw.
The Flamingos will now look to build on their group-stage performance and overcome the Mexican challenge to keep their hopes of another strong World Cup finish alive.
