The National Chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has accused President Bola Tinubu of using personal financial resources to secure power in the 2023 presidential election, alleging that the President has failed to meet Nigerians’ expectations, particularly in the North.
Baba-Ahmed made the remarks amid growing political activity ahead of the 2027 general election, as the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council announced new appointments and changes to its youth and women mobilisation teams.

Baba-Ahmed Accuses Tinubu of Buying His Way to Power
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Baba-Ahmed alleged that Tinubu largely financed his own campaign ahead of the 2023 presidential election, arguing that the President did not depend sufficiently on financial contributions from ordinary Nigerians.
“He single-handedly bought his way into power,” Baba-Ahmed said, according to reports of the interview.
The PRP chairman also criticised Tinubu’s “Emi Lokan” slogan, arguing that the President had assumed office without adequately addressing the country’s longstanding challenges.
Baba-Ahmed described the administration’s performance as disappointing, citing insecurity, economic hardship and policies he considers unfavourable to ordinary Nigerians.
He acknowledged that Tinubu inherited a country facing poverty and weak institutions but argued that, after more than three years in office, the government had not delivered the improvements Nigerians expected.
These remarks represent Baba-Ahmed’s assessment of the administration’s record.
PRP Chairman Says Northern Voters Feel Neglected
Baba-Ahmed also alleged that the Tinubu administration had failed to adequately address the concerns of northern Nigerians.
He said dissatisfaction with the government was not limited to the North, arguing that people across the country were frustrated by what he described as unfulfilled promises on security, economic conditions and governance.
In separate comments, the PRP chairman warned against attempts to influence northern voters through financial inducements ahead of the 2027 election.
He challenged northern political leaders supporting the APC to explain their position to constituents and urged voters to protect their dignity and reject vote-buying.
Baba-Ahmed’s comments add to the political debate over the Tinubu administration’s performance and the role northern voters could play in the next presidential election.

APC Reshuffles 2027 Presidential Campaign Council
Separately, the APC Presidential Campaign Council has announced a new Directorate of Stage Organisation and Management, alongside changes to the leadership of its youth and women mobilisation directorates.
The adjustments were disclosed in a statement issued by the council’s secretary, Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma. The council said the changes were intended to strengthen its organisational structure, improve coordination and enhance campaign operations ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Under the new arrangement, Dr Farouk Adamu Aliyu was appointed Director of the Directorate of Stage Organisation and Management, while Adejare Bello was named Co-Director.
The council also announced the following appointments:
- Youth Mobilisation: Ayo Olawande as Director, with Dayo Israel as Deputy Director.
- Women Mobilisation: Dr Mary Aille Idele as Director, with Dr Betta Edu as Deputy Director and Hon. Imaan Suleman as Secretary.
The campaign council said the appointees would work with other directorates to implement mobilisation strategies, with particular attention to engaging young people and women.
The changes follow the constitution of the APC’s presidential campaign council and form part of the party’s preparations for the 2027 election.
Political Competition Intensifies Ahead of 2027
Baba-Ahmed’s criticism and the APC’s campaign restructuring reflect two aspects of Nigeria’s developing 2027 political contest: opposition scrutiny of the administration’s record and the ruling party’s efforts to organise its campaign.
The PRP chairman has focused on insecurity, economic hardship and concerns about the treatment of northern voters. The APC, meanwhile, says its new appointments are intended to improve coordination and strengthen mobilisation ahead of the election.
As political activities gather momentum, questions about governance, public welfare, regional concerns and electoral integrity are likely to remain central to the debate.
