- Delta State deploys 1,000 forest guards to strengthen security operations.
- The guards are reportedly equipped with AK-47 rifles to tackle criminal activities in forest areas.
- Secretary to the State Government, Kingsley Emu, says the initiative forms part of broader security efforts.
- Emu urges commercial motorcycle and tricycle operators to support peace and public safety.
- The state government says improved security is essential for economic activities and residents’ freedom of movement.
The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr Kingsley Emu, disclosed the development while addressing members of the Commercial Motorcycle and Tricycle Operators Association, Delta State, at the Government House in Asaba.
Emu said the introduction of the forest guards was part of broader efforts to strengthen security operations across Delta State and neighbouring states, including Bayelsa and Edo.
He expressed optimism that the deployment would improve security in forest areas and surrounding communities, making it more difficult for bandits and other criminal elements to operate.
According to him, the state government remains committed to sustaining security and ensuring that residents can move freely and conduct legitimate businesses without fear, both during the day and at night.
“Nigerians are going through hardship, yes, but this hardship will ease off. This is the first government that is getting security back on track, with every security agency working to restore peace and stability,” Emu said.
Delta Government Links Security to Economic Growth
The SSG stressed that improved security was essential to restoring economic activities and creating an environment where residents could work and pursue their livelihoods without intimidation.
He said strengthening security operations would help protect communities and support the activities of traders, transport operators and other residents whose businesses depend on safe movement across the state.
However, the effectiveness of the forest guard deployment will depend on sustained operations, coordination with other security agencies and the ability to prevent criminal activities in vulnerable areas.

The government’s deployment of forest guards forms part of its stated efforts to address insecurity and improve the safety of residents and communities.
