Three Feared Dead as Suspected Herdsmen Attack Omulonye Community in Benue

At least three people have reportedly been killed in a suspected herdsmen attack on Omulonye Community in Ogbadibo, Benue State, with several others said to have sustained multiple injuries and houses set ablaze. The incident reportedly occurred in the Benue South senatorial district, triggering panic among residents as details of the attack and the identities of the victims remained unclear at the time of reporting.

Suspected Herdsmen Attack Reported in Omulonye Community

Sources said suspected herdsmen invaded Omulonye Community, reportedly causing deaths, injuries and destruction of property.

An eyewitness account indicated that at least three people were feared dead, including a child said to be approximately three and a half years old. Several other residents reportedly sustained injuries during the attack.

The circumstances surrounding the incident, including the identities of the victims and the number of people affected, had not been independently confirmed at the time of filing this report.

Injured Victims Reportedly Receiving Treatment

According to accounts from the affected area, some residents were receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital when the suspected attackers reportedly struck.

The attack allegedly triggered panic and further violence, leaving residents fearful for their safety.

Sources also reported extensive destruction of property, including houses that were set ablaze. The extent of the damage and the number of buildings affected were not immediately established.

Benue Police Say Attack Has Not Been Reported

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Benue State Police Command, DSP Orchia Aondongu Peter, said the incident had not yet been brought to his attention.

His response means the reported death toll, injuries and destruction had not been officially confirmed by the police at the time of reporting.

Further details regarding a possible investigation, deployment of security personnel or arrests were not immediately available.

The incident adds to concerns over the safety of rural communities in Benue State, although the circumstances and responsibility for this particular attack remain subject to official confirmation.
