AIG Receives NHRC Delegation in Yola
Agans-Irabor made the commitment when he received a delegation from the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Liaison Framework during a courtesy visit to the Zone 3 Command Headquarters in Yola.
The visit was aimed at strengthening collaboration, mutual understanding and effective engagement between the NHRC and the Nigeria Police Force, particularly on issues relating to human rights, justice and accountability.
The delegation was led by the Team Lead of the NHRC Liaison Framework, Madam Grace Mamza, who expressed appreciation to the AIG and members of his management team for receiving the delegation.
NHRC Seeks Stronger Police Collaboration
Mamza stressed the importance of sustained collaboration between the NHRC and the Police in promoting and protecting human rights within Nigeria’s criminal justice system.
She said effective cooperation between both institutions was necessary to ensure that complaints and allegations of human rights violations were properly received, documented, investigated and appropriately addressed.
According to her, constructive engagement, accountability and respect for due process are essential to protecting the rights of citizens, victims, suspects and other individuals who come into contact with the justice system.
Mamza explained that the NHRC is responsible for monitoring and promoting compliance with human rights standards, receiving and examining complaints of alleged violations, undertaking interventions within its mandate and promoting awareness of fundamental human rights.
She noted that the effective discharge of these responsibilities required continuous engagement with law enforcement agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force.

Responding, AIG Agans-Irabor assured the delegation of the Police’s maximum support and cooperation whenever required.
He reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to professionalism, accountability, respect for fundamental human rights and the rule of law in carrying out its constitutional and statutory responsibilities.
The AIG said the Police had a fundamental responsibility to investigate allegations and establish the facts surrounding reported cases before taking appropriate legal action.
He explained that proper investigation was critical to ensuring that cases brought before the courts were supported by credible facts and evidence, while also safeguarding the rights of all parties involved in the criminal justice process.
