The ranking assessed states using several indicators, including the existence and implementation of a State Action Plan, the functionality of multi-stakeholder forums and secretariats, online platforms and evidence of political commitment to open governance.

Gombe’s 80-point score places the state among those demonstrating progress in institutionalising key components of the open-government framework.

OGP Ranking Assesses Governance Structures

The Open Government Partnership Nigeria assessment is designed to measure the extent to which states are establishing structures that promote transparency, accountability, public participation and inclusive governance.

The indicators used in the third-quarter assessment provide a framework for evaluating how states are implementing commitments associated with open government.

For Gombe, the assessment highlighted progress in areas linked to stakeholder engagement and participatory governance.

Gombe Government Highlights Citizen Participation

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by Ismaila Uba Misilli, Director-General, Press Affairs, Government House, Gombe, the state’s performance reflects efforts by the administration of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya to strengthen mechanisms that enable citizens and stakeholders to participate in governance and development processes.

Misilli said the recognition underscored the administration’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for citizens to engage with government.

He added that the latest assessment came against the backdrop of sustained efforts to strengthen governance institutions, deepen stakeholder engagement and promote transparency in the implementation of government policies and programmes.

Gombe Vows to Strengthen Open Governance

The Gombe State Government said it would build on the reported progress by strengthening governance structures and expanding opportunities for citizen participation.

The administration also reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that governance remains responsive to the needs and aspirations of residents.

The latest ranking is expected to further place emphasis on the importance of institutionalising open-government practices across Gombe State, particularly through stronger stakeholder engagement, transparency and accountability.
