NOC To Host Over 100 Girls In Lagos
The NOC Women Commission will host more than 100 adolescent girls from secondary schools across Lagos State on October 10 at the OlympAfrica Centre, Amuwo-Odofin, Lagos.
The event is being organised to commemorate the International Day of the Girl Child and will bring together schoolgirls, young female athletes, coaches and stakeholders from the sports, education and advocacy sectors.
The programme is themed “Her Voice, Her Future: Investing in Girls Through Sports and Education.”
Programme To Feature Mentorship, Sports And Digital Technology
The day-long event is expected to feature presentations by women leaders in education, sports and digital technology, as well as mentorship sessions and sporting activities.
The commission will also launch the “Her Voice” pledge as part of activities designed to encourage girls to participate actively in sports, education and leadership.
The programme is aimed at highlighting the role of sports and education in creating opportunities for girls to develop skills, confidence and leadership capacity.
NOC Women Commission Schedules Journalism Seminar
The NOC Women Commission will thereafter conclude its 2026 calendar with the annual Women in Sports Leadership Training/Seminar for journalists, scheduled to take place from October 22 to 24 in Abuja.
Unlike previous editions, which focused on female coaches, administrators and technical officials, the 2026 seminar is open to journalists of all genders.
The training will focus on contemporary sports reporting, leadership, ethics and gender-sensitive journalism.
It will also examine strategies for improving the visibility and coverage of girls and women in sports.
Seminar Targets Better Coverage Of Women In Sports
The commission said the journalism training would provide participants with skills and perspectives for more inclusive and responsible sports reporting.
The focus on gender-sensitive journalism is also expected to encourage greater attention to women’s sporting achievements and issues affecting female athletes.
The programme forms part of the commission’s broader efforts to promote the participation, development and welfare of girls and women in Nigerian sports.

NOC Women Commission Lists 2026 Programmes
The NOC Women Commission has outlined three major programmes for 2026 as part of its efforts to promote the participation, development and welfare of girls and women in Nigerian sports.
The first programme, the Award for Pioneer Female Athletes (1965–1980), was held on June 30, 2026.
The award recognised female athletes who played pioneering roles in the development of women’s sports in Nigeria.
The October girl-child programme and the journalism leadership seminar form part of the commission’s remaining activities for the year.
Habu Gumel Commends Women Commission
NOC President, Habu Gumel, commended the Women Commission for its initiatives, particularly its focus on girls’ education and sports.
Gumel noted that investment in girls through education and sports would provide them with opportunities to find their voices, assume leadership roles and shape their futures.
The commission said it remained committed to creating equal opportunities while promoting the welfare, development and participation of girls and women in Nigerian sports.
