Mundx Analytics has reported differences between its tally of available Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) IReV result sheets and the declared results for two National Assembly elections in Rivers State in 2023. The company’s reported review puts Labour Party (LP) candidates ahead in the Obio/Akpor House of Representatives and Rivers East Senate contests, while INEC declared Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidates winners.
Verification note: The specific Mundx legislative tallies described here could not be independently reproduced from the company’s publicly accessible records at publication time. Mundx’s current public Rivers 2023 page describes a presidential-election dataset, not House or Senate results. Its available analysis is not an official INEC collation and does not by itself establish fraud or manipulation.
Key Highlights
- Mundx reportedly flagged gaps between available IReV sheets and declared results in two Rivers National Assembly races.
- The reported available-sheet tally puts LP ahead in Obio/Akpor and Rivers East.
- INEC declared PDP’s Kingsley Chinda winner in Obio/Akpor and PDP’s Allwell Onyesoh winner in Rivers East.
- INEC announced 134,283 votes for Onyesoh and 74,725 for LP’s Benjamin Okwuwolu in Rivers East.
- Mundx says its polling-unit tally is not an official INEC result or a complete official recount.
- The reported discrepancies do not independently establish electoral fraud or manipulation.
Mundx Analysis Raises Questions Over Rivers Results
According to the figures attributed to Mundx Analytics, its analysis was based on polling-unit result sheets available through INEC’s IReV portal.
For the Obio/Akpor House of Representatives election, Mundx reportedly reviewed 1,167 of 1,211 polling units, representing 96.37 per cent coverage. Its tally showed LP candidate Onunwor Ndamati with 67,320 votes against 36,542 for PDP candidate Kingsley Chinda, a reported LP lead of 30,778 votes among the sheets reviewed.
INEC declared Chinda the constituency winner. Mundx reportedly estimated that the 44 units not included in its count contained about 7,669 valid votes, and said that this would not be enough to erase the gap even if all those votes went to the PDP. The estimate and available-sheet tally remain distinct from INEC’s official collation.
Rivers East Senate Result Also Under Scrutiny
Mundx also reportedly examined the Rivers East Senatorial District election and said its available-sheet tally put LP candidate Okwuwolu Wolu Ekelechi Benjamin ahead of PDP candidate Allwell Onyesoh among the records reviewed.
INEC declared Onyesoh the winner with 134,283 votes, against 74,725 for Okwuwolu. The Guardian reported the figures following INEC’s announcement.
The draft figures attributed to Mundx say it counted 2,850 of 3,503 polling units, or 81.36 per cent coverage, and that its modelling of missing units still left LP ahead in its dataset. The specific legislative count could not be independently checked against Mundx’s publicly accessible Rivers data at the time of publication.
What the Public Mundx Data Shows
Mundx’s public Rivers record describes its 2023 data as a four-party presidential polling-unit rollup. The company states that this is not the official INEC collated result, and that missing records remain visible rather than being estimated. That published dataset does not present the House and Senate figures attributed to the company in this report.
This difference in scope matters: polling-unit result sheets and a research tally are not the same as the legally recognised result produced through the statutory collation process. The figures attributed to Mundx should be treated as a reported comparison requiring source-level review, not as a recount or a finding that INEC altered results.
Ndamati Previously Challenged Obio/Akpor Result
LP candidate Onunwor Ndamati previously challenged Chinda’s return at the National and State Houses of Assembly Election Petition Tribunal, seeking an order invalidating the return and recognising him as the winner. He argued that the collated results did not accurately reflect votes cast at polling units.
The current Mundx-attributed analysis, if based on the described records, does not itself overturn any judicial outcome. Any discrepancy between data layers would need to be examined alongside the underlying forms, collation records and applicable court decisions.

Discrepancies Renew Election Transparency Debate
The reported comparison has renewed online discussion about result collation and voter confidence ahead of the 2027 elections. Some users say gaps between polling-unit records and declared results can undermine confidence, while others caution that missing, illegible, duplicated or otherwise problematic sheets may explain differences without proving deliberate manipulation.
For now, the reported figures point to a discrepancy that warrants explanation. They do not independently establish that INEC manipulated the 2023 Rivers results. Mundx’s current public Rivers record can be reviewed on the company’s website, where its published scope and limitations are set out.
