The Northern Senators Forum has called for an immediate military offensive against insurgents operating along the Kopre-Sambisa corridor in Adamawa State following attacks on two military formations that reportedly left soldiers, a forest guard and civilians dead.
The senators also urged the Federal Government and Defence Headquarters to urgently strengthen the military presence in the affected areas to prevent further attacks and the displacement of residents.
Chairman of the forum, Senator Abdulaziz Yar’Adua, who represents Katsina Central, made the demand in a personally signed statement issued on Sunday.
According to Yar’Adua, the attacks targeted the 226 Battalion in Garkida and the 232 Battalion in Garaha on Wednesday and Thursday respectively.
He said the violence had affected several communities across Hong and Gombi Local Government Areas, describing the attacks as a threat to Adamawa State, the North and Nigeria as a whole.
Yar’Adua expressed condolences to families who lost loved ones and residents affected by the attacks.
Communities reportedly affected include Garaha, Dabna, Bangna, Mubang, Zah, Bitirhuya, Kwapre, Mayo Ladde, Gaya-Dlang, Garkida, Boima and Guyaku.

The Northern Senators Forum also called on the National Emergency Management Agency and the North East Development Commission to provide urgent assistance and relief materials to residents displaced by the violence.
Yar’Adua said the attacks involved killings, abductions of women and children, the burning of places of worship, destruction of property and the displacement of hundreds of families.
He urged the Federal Government and Defence Headquarters to reinforce security personnel along the Kopre-Sambisa corridor and adopt a coordinated strategy to dismantle the criminal enclaves.
The senator assured affected residents that the Northern Senators Forum would continue to stand with the people of Adamawa State.
He condemned the attacks and said collective efforts were needed to prevent residents from being left at the mercy of insurgents.
