The Nigeria Media Shooting Sports Association (NMSSA) has commenced discussions with the Nigeria Shooting Sport Federation (NSSF) on a proposed partnership aimed at strengthening media collaboration and promoting the development and visibility of shooting sports across Nigeria.

The initiative began with a courtesy visit by the NMSSA committee to the NSSF headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, as the newly formed association seeks to establish institutional partnerships and increase public awareness of shooting sports.

Key Highlights

  • The Nigeria Media Shooting Sports Association has commenced engagement with the NSSF.
  • The NMSSA delegation was led by National Chairman Paul Joseph.
  • NSSF President Commodore Shettima Mohammed Shagir welcomed the initiative.
  • The NSSF leadership advised the association on governance and procurement procedures.
  • The federation encouraged collaboration with SWAN, NIS and NUJ.
  • The NMSSA recently held its inaugural congress in Abuja.
  • Members adopted the organisation’s name through a democratic poll.
  • The association plans to begin registration with the Corporate Affairs Commission.
  • The group says it will operate nationally, with journalists from all geopolitical zones expected to participate.

NMSSA Seeks Stronger Collaboration With NSSF

The delegation, led by National Chairman Paul Joseph, included National Welfare Director Aishatu Shateema Bukar and other members of the executive committee.

The visit provided an opportunity for the Nigeria Media Shooting Sports Association to formally introduce its activities to the NSSF leadership and discuss areas of cooperation.

The committee also outlined its interest in improving media coverage, public awareness and understanding of shooting sports across Nigeria.

NSSF President Welcomes Media Shooting Sports Initiative

Receiving the delegation, NSSF President Commodore Shettima Mohammed Shagir welcomed the initiative and offered administrative guidance on how the association could develop a credible and sustainable structure.

Shettima advised the executives to maintain proper governance and procurement procedures in the administration of the organisation.

He also stressed the importance of establishing relationships with recognised sporting and media organisations, including the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Nigeria Institute for Sports (NIS) and Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).

According to the NSSF president, stronger cooperation among sporting and media institutions could support a more standardised and professional approach to reporting and promoting shooting sports nationwide.

NMSSA Holds Inaugural Congress in Abuja

The engagement with the NSSF followed the inaugural congress of the Nigeria Media Shooting Sports Team, which was held at the Badminton Hall, Package B of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.

During the congress, members adopted the name Nigeria Media Shooting Sports Team through a democratic poll and ratified the pioneer executive committee responsible for managing the organisation.

The approved national officers are:

  • Paul Joseph — National Chairman
  • Olayemi Esan — National Vice President
  • Nkechi Eze — National Secretary
  • Lawal Ibrahim — National Public Relations Officer
  • Aishatu Shateema Bukar — National Welfare Director

Association Begins Process for Legal Recognition

The congress also approved resolutions aimed at establishing the organisation on a formal institutional foundation.

One of the resolutions was to begin the process of registering the association with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) to obtain legal recognition and establish its official administrative documentation.

Members also reaffirmed that the organisation would operate as a nationwide body rather than remain limited to Abuja.

The association expects journalists from Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones to participate in its activities as it develops its national structure.

NMSSA Targets Greater Visibility for Shooting Sports

The engagement with the NSSF represents an early step in the association’s plans to establish institutional partnerships and strengthen media coverage of shooting sports in Nigeria.

Through collaboration with relevant sporting and media bodies, the Nigeria Media Shooting Sports Association aims to contribute to greater public awareness, media attention and participation in shooting sports across the country. For more updates, follow us on X.
