Hollywood actor and filmmaker Tyler Perry has ruled out marriage, saying concerns over what he described as a “divorce pandemic” and its financial and legal consequences have shaped his decision.
The 57-year-old entertainment mogul, who has never been married, disclosed this during an appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show while promoting his latest movie, Why Did I Get Married Again?
Perry explained that his decision does not stem from a rejection of love or companionship, but from his concerns about the consequences that can follow divorce, particularly for people who have built significant wealth.
“I’m never marrying. And it’s actually the divorce pandemic that is happening. Everybody that I know that is doing well went broke because of divorce,” he said.
The filmmaker said getting older has also changed his outlook on life, with greater priority now placed on spending time with his son and enjoying life at a slower pace.
“It’s time to slow down a bit, enjoy more time with my son and just take it all in,” Perry said.
Perry shares his 11-year-old son, Aman, with his former partner, Gelila Bekele. The pair were in a relationship from 2009 until 2020.

He also disclosed plans to move to Puerto Rico with Aman at the beginning of 2027, while reducing his involvement in the demanding Hollywood schedule.
Perry’s comments come as he promotes Why Did I Get Married Again?, the third instalment of the franchise, which has explored marriage, infidelity and divorce since the series began in 2007.
Despite his decision to remain unmarried, Perry maintained that he still believes in love and partnership, but does not consider a legal marriage contract necessary for himself at this stage of his life.
