The Edo State Government has donated exercise books and other writing materials to children at the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camp in Uhogua, Ovia North East Local Government Area, ahead of the new academic term.
The educational materials were presented to the children during a visit to the camp on Sunday, as schools across Edo State prepare to resume for another academic session.

Edo Government Supports Uhogua IDP Children
The intervention was described as a welcome relief for children at the camp, many of whom are preparing to return to school with renewed hope and basic learning materials.
Among the beneficiaries were Unity Moses, an SS1 student, Joy Haruna, a JSS1 student, and Barnabas Barka, an SS3 student.
The students expressed appreciation to the Edo State Government for remembering them ahead of the new academic term.
They said the exercise books and writing materials would help them prepare adequately for school and make them feel supported in their pursuit of education.

Camp Supervisor Appeals for More Support
The Supervisor of the camp, Mrs Evelyn Omigie, described the intervention as timely, saying the provision of educational materials would help reduce some of the challenges confronting the children as they prepare to return to school.
Omigie, however, appealed for additional financial assistance for students in tertiary institutions and those seeking admission into universities.
She said further support was needed to enable the students meet registration fees and other educational expenses associated with higher education.
Government House Chaplain Explains Intervention
Presenting the books and writing materials, the Edo State Government House Chaplain and Special Adviser to the Governor on Religious Matters, Apostle Sule Faraday, said the gesture was part of the state government’s continued support for children living at the camp.
Faraday said the intervention was designed to complement the support provided by the administration of Governor Monday Okpebholo to the camp over the years.
He stressed that children living in displacement should not be denied educational opportunities available to their peers.
According to him, the administration is committed to ensuring that “children, both displaced and non-displaced, are treated as equals” and provided with the necessary tools to thrive academically.
N400,000 Cash Gift for Tertiary Students
In addition to the distribution of exercise books and writing materials, the Edo State Government also provided a N400,000 cash gift to students seeking admission and registration into higher institutions.
The intervention is expected to provide some financial relief to beneficiaries facing the cost of registration and other educational requirements.
