Brighton & Hove Albion secured a commanding 5-0 victory over newly promoted Coventry City on Sunday, leaving Frank Lampard’s side without a point or goal after their opening four Premier League matches.
Charalampos Kostoulas opened the scoring in the 35th minute with a superb individual effort before Malick Yalcouyé doubled Brighton’s advantage six minutes into the second half.
Coventry’s afternoon took another turn for the worse moments later when Nigeria international Taiwo Awoniyi was shown a straight red card for an elbow on Brighton defender Maxim de Cuyper.
Playing with 10 men, Coventry struggled to contain Brighton, with Pascal Groß converting a 70th-minute penalty after Bobby Thomas brought down Kostoulas inside the box.
Brighton captain Lewis Dunk then put the result beyond doubt with a powerful 20-yard finish in the 83rd minute, while Yasin Ayari completed the rout with a stoppage-time strike.
The defeat leaves Coventry rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table after four consecutive losses without scoring.
Lampard’s side have now become only the second team in Premier League history to lose their first four matches without finding the net, following Crystal Palace’s record in the 2017-18 season.

It is also the first time Coventry have failed to record either a goal or point in their opening four league matches.
Despite the heavy defeat, Coventry had created several opportunities before Brighton took control.
The hosts recorded eight first-half chances and produced their best expected-goals figure of the season, but Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen made important saves to deny Jack Rudoni and Frank Onyeka.
Brighton’s victory moves them up to fourth place in the Premier League table, while Coventry face an increasingly difficult battle to preserve their top-flight status.
For Awoniyi, the red card adds to a disappointing afternoon as Coventry’s difficult start to life back in the Premier League continues.
